Michael Carrick signs one-year contract extension in Man United

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a one-year contract extension to stay with the Premier League club until June 2016.

The England international, 33, has made 376 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 23 goals, since joining from Tottenham in the summer of 2006.
"He is my second captain behind Wayne Rooney and he can read the game as a team player," said boss Louis van Gaal.
"He also has an excellent pass forward, that's very important for me."
Carrick, who has played 17 times for fourth-placed United this season, was named as United's vice-captain in December following the departure of Darren Fletcher to West Bromwich Albion.
The former West Ham trainee scored his team's second goal in last weekend's 3-0 win against Tottenham, a victory that keeps United in contention for a return to the Champions League.
Van Gaal's team travel to arch rivals Liverpool, who are fifth, in the Premier League on Sunday (13:30 GMT).
